Mock Soiling

Simulated contamination

According to PDA TR29 mock soiling is defined as a process of soiling the equipment for a cleaning validation protocol in which soil is applied to the equipment surfaces to simulate the conditon of the soil on those surfaces following typical product manufacturing. Another common name for mock soiling is artificial soiling. If using mock soiling for your protocol, justification must be provided and how it simulates the real manufacturing process. Mock soiling is typically used when a facility does not or cannot use three consecutive commercial scale batches. Mock soiling is a process and should not be confused with a mock soil as that is a product that simulates the actual soil.
