Gravitmetric method, also referred to as gravitmetric analysis, is used in analytical methods where the measurement is of mass or the change of mass. This chemical analysis converts the constituent into a substance, of known composition, that is then separated from the sample and weighed. Per PDA TR29, it is most commonly used for determining residues in small-molecule API synthesis where a larger volume of solvent rinse or reflux is evoprated to dryness. According to ISPE, it can be performed using load cells, a balance, or a floor scale. Any components (cables, hoses, etc.) that could impact the linearity and accuracy of the weighing should be taken into consideration.
