Endotoxin
Fever inducing cell wall component of bacteria
A structural component of Gram-negative bacterial cell walls to maintain its integritity. Endotoxins are commonly reffered to as lipopolysaccharide or pyrogens. When absored into a mammalian host, endotoxins induce a fever response that may be deadly in high dosage. Endotoxin testing is expected if the product made has a specification for it, during the testing of pharmaceutical water, and cleaning during biopharmaceutical production.
