Cleaning Effectiveness
Extent of residue removal during cleaning processes
The cleaning effectiveness is a term to describe the success of a cleaning process to met the acceptance limits defiend. PDA Technical Report 29, Points to Consider for Cleaning Validation, discussess strategies beyond cleaning validation to ensure cleaning effectiveness is not reduced during routine cleanings. The example given is understanding the causes and results of alarms on the CIP skid. For instance, if an alarm is sounded due to the concentration of the cleaning agent not meeting the appropriate specification then it is appropriate to address the issue and continue the cycle to ensure the cleaning effectiveness is not reduced without the need to shut down and restart the cleaning.
