Chemical Reaction

A process which changes the molecular structure of a chemical or compound

A process that involves the rearrangement of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form. A chemical reaction may be spontaneous, which occur if the conditions are appropriate, or non spontaneous which require an external agent such as heat. During production, a series of control chemical reactions are performed which concludes with the desire substance. An assessment detailing the reactions including the by products, intermediates, and potential impurities is expected to take place during new product introduction. In terms of cleaning, chemical reactions occur to alter the residue's structure to make it more easily removed from surfaces.
