Caustic Cleaners
Strong stain removers
Caustic Cleaners (referred to as caustic/caustics) contain hydroxide in their formulation and are used in conjunction with heat to corrode organic materials such as proteins, fats, and microbes. Two common caustic cleaners are Sodium Hydroxide and Potassium Hydroxide which are effective in cleaning and relatively easy to remove during rinsing. Depending on the expected residue a caustic and acid cleaning may occur in the same cleaning recipe. Whenever the cleaning agent is changed a rinse with water is performed to reduce cleaning agent residue prior to adding the next cleaner.
