Cleaning Validation Glossary
Campaign Length
Duration of production cycle
Campaign length refers to the duration in number of days and batches, whichever is shorter, that continuous manufacturing of batches of a single product may occur. PDA Technical Report 29, Points to Consider for Cleaning Validation, defines a campaign as "Processing of multiple lots or batches of the same product serially in the same equipment". The campaign length must be validated and there must be scientific justification for the length of the campaign. Justifications include demonstrating how the cleanability of a product changes over time as it dries and accumulates on surfaces in addition to the impurity profile of the product. Between each batch it is expected that a minor cleaning occurs and at the conclusion of the campaign a major cleaning is performed.
