Automated System

A mechanized process requiring little human interaction

A programmed, mechanized process that utilizes sensors, controls, and actuators in order for the system to minimize human intervention. According to PDA TR29, "Clean-in-place" usually refers to an automated system that consists of a system which uses various tanks and piping to deliver a cleaning solution through the equipment to be cleaned. Cleaning parameters for automated processes include, but are not limited to, volume of cleaning agents, volume of rinse water, flow rates, and temperature of wash and rinse solutions.
